After serving in the Navy, Jonathan Jones faced a new battle: rebuilding his life after homelessness and felony convictions. Barred from jobs—even gig work—he struggled to find hope. But with help from Veterans Legal Institute (VLI) and pro bono attorney Don Hammond, everything changed for the better!

Thanks to legal advocacy and a successful expungement, Jonathan received a second chance. Today, he's working, planning for the future, and reclaiming his life—one step at a time.

US Army veteran Victor Lewis was getting nowhere with his landlord after reporting a cockroach infestation in his apartment replica

Lewis, who served as an infantry supply clerk at Fort Campbell, Kentucky from 1983 to 1984, had enough with his landlord. He turned to a nonprofit law firm, Veterans Legal Institute, which stepped in to represent Lewis free of charge after his apartment complex did not resolve the issue quickly enough.
